Societies American Civil War Society (UK) This is the society that we belong to. The American Civil War Society (ACWS) was formed in 1975 and has been going from strength to strength ever since. Membership for 2003 was exactly 800 members. It has close connections with ACW re-enactors in the USA and across Europe. The Society provides an interesting hobby for its members, excellent entertainment for its audiences and a focal point for the weekend events and venues where it appears. They aim to give an exciting, colourful, noisy spectacle that is both enjoyable to watch as well as being very informative. Do your weekends lack glamour and excitement? If the answer is YES then this Society could be for you! Thousands have enjoyed our authentic and convincing re-enactments of American Civil War battles, but the real thrills are only for the PARTICIPANTS. If you are interested in giving up a few weekends of your choice for undiluted escapism then contact the Southern Skirmish Association (SOSKAN). Armies of the Potomac and Northern Virginia The Armies of the Potomac & Northern Virginia Historical Society or APNV was formed in June 1999 by eight people, many of whom have over 30 years of reenacting experience. In less than a year the APNV had grown to nearly 200 members with new members joining each week. The APNV consists of strong artillery, Union Army of both regular blue troops and the Berdan's Sharpshooters, two cavalry units with some of the best trained horsepeople in the country doing spectacular re-enactment displays and a Confederate Army and Medical Corp.
